Tiger Corridor NH-46 Project Now Improves North South Connectivity

The Central Government has sanctioned ₹758 crore to upgrade the 22-km “Tiger Corridor” on NH-46 (Itarsi-Betul section) to a four-lane highway, completing the vital Gwalior-Betul Corridor. This strategic expansion bridges a critical gap in North-South India connectivity, facilitating the faster transport of regional resources like coal, copper, and graphite while improving market access for local farmers.

To mitigate the environmental impact on the surrounding Satpura and Ratapani wildlife areas, the project integrates 11 specialized animal underpasses and overpasses designed to eliminate roadkill and preserve migratory paths. Beyond logistics, the upgrade is expected to stimulate eco-tourism and improve road safety in the region’s challenging hilly terrain.
