New Smart Dashboard by BMC set to Streamline Parking in Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved its smart parking project, appointing a contractor to build a digital dashboard mapping parking spaces across Mumbai. The ₹3 crore system will be accessible via a mobile app and website, allowing users to check real-time availability and book slots in advance.

The initiative aims to digitise Mumbai’s parking network, covering 26 off-street and over 350 on-street locations, while integrating private parking in malls and commercial complexes. Residential societies may also open up spaces during the day to ease shortages.

A pilot will roll out in five wards across the city, with full deployment targeted within a year. The platform will also suggest alternatives like public transport when parking is unavailable, helping reduce congestion.

With rising vehicle density, now at around 2,300 cars per km of road—parking remains a major challenge, further strained by over 3 lakh new vehicle registrations in 2025 alone.
