JICA Announces Massive Growth for New Bengaluru Metro phase 3

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a ₹6,100 crore loan agreement with the Government of India for Phase 3 (I) of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project, aimed at expanding Bengaluru’s mass rapid transit network to ease traffic congestion.

The phase will cover around 44.65 km of metro lines with 31 elevated stations, including the Outer Ring Road (Corridor 3-1) and western growth corridors (Corridor 3-2). Executed by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the project is expected to improve urban mobility, reduce vehicular pollution, and support transit-oriented development with better multimodal integration.

The loan has a 30-year tenure with a 10-year grace period, and the project is targeted for completion by January 2032, with tenders for initial civil works likely from May 2026.
