New National Highway Through Hilly Terrain Speeds Indore-Hyderabad Travel

Construction of the Indore–Ichhapur National Highway, a key Indore to Hyderabad highway corridor, is expected to be completed by December this year. The four lane Madhya Pradesh highway project aims to reduce accidents, ease congestion and shorten travel time while improving road connectivity between Indore and Hyderabad.

Work on the 33.40 km stretch between Tejaji Nagar in Indore and Balwada in Khargone district is challenging due to rugged hills and steep ghats. To address this, three tunnels are being built using electronic blasting technology, including the 575 metre Bherughat tunnel, the 550 metre Charol Ghat tunnel and the 480 metre Baigram tunnel.

The tunnels will remove difficult ghat sections, enabling safer and smoother travel while improving connectivity between Indore, Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and Hyderabad via Jalgaon in Maharashtra.
