Nallamala Elevated Corridor: New Route to Srisailam Through Tiger Reserves

The Centre is planning an elevated corridor through the Nallamala forest to improve connectivity to Srisailam while protecting sensitive ecosystems. The 86.7 km project, estimated at ₹18,500 crore, will pass through the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam and Amrabad Tiger Reserves, linking Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Aimed at easing restricted and unsafe travel conditions on the existing ghat road, the corridor will allow controlled, round the clock movement without disturbing wildlife. The design includes eco-sensitive pillars, long span structures, and minimal entry points to reduce ground impact.

The project is currently under review, with inputs being sought from state forest departments. Once cleared, it is expected to improve travel time, safety, and pilgrimage access, while setting a model for infrastructure development in protected forest zones.
