By next October, the business district of Bandra-Kurla Complex will probably become India’s first mini Smart City. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has received bids from two consortia led by Reliance Infrastructure and Larsen & Toubro. The project offers features such as smart parking, free hi-speed Wi-Fi, solar-powered streetlights with motion sensors, advanced CCTV networks, building monitoring system and a mobile app that will enable citizens to use all the facilities for the business district.
Smart Parking: MMRDA plans to enable citizens with 3000 new slots of automated parking with effective Mobile parking apps and Public information system. This would enable hassle free parking, ease of parking slot identification and booking.
Energy Efficiency: With use of latest technology, the two blocks in BKC will have 841 smart solar powered street lights controlled by time and motion sensor. The high-tech elements will enable annual reduction of carbon emissions by 800 tonnes and energy consumption by around 40%.
Hi-Speed Internet: MMRDA plans to allow usage of the Internet via WiFi. According to them, the speeds offered will be faster than what we get today in 3G and 4G and a certain amount of data would be free of cost.
