Nagpur has started rolling out its AI-powered Intelligent Integrated Traffic Management System (IITMS) to modernise traffic management and strengthen road surveillance across the city. The smart traffic signal system is now operational at 32 major intersections, with installation underway at nearly 80 more junctions.
The AI-enabled traffic signals use intelligent cameras, ANPR technology and real-time traffic monitoring to automatically adjust signal timings based on vehicle density. The system also detects traffic violations such as helmetless riding, triple riding, seat belt violations and signal jumping, while generating automatic e-challans. Authorities expect the smart traffic management system to reduce congestion, improve travel efficiency and enhance urban surveillance in Nagpur.
