The Maharashtra government has appointed senior IAS officer Ashwini Bhide as Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), making her the first woman to lead the country’s richest civic body.
Known as the “Metro woman” for leading Mumbai’s first underground Metro-3 project, she succeeds Bhushan Gagrani and is expected to serve till 2030.
She will oversee major infrastructure projects, monsoon preparedness, and civic operations with a budget of over ₹80,000 crore, while also holding additional charge of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation.
