Seismometers in bullet train corridor

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) announced plans to install 28 seismometers, including an “Early Earthquake Detection System,” along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. The seismometers will be hosted in traction sub-stations and switching posts along the alignment. These will detect earthquake-induced tremors through primary waves enabling an automatic power shutdown followed by deactivation of brakes, thereby forcing the train to stop. The ‘Early Earthquake Detection System’ is based on the Japanese Shinkansen technology and will be installed to ensure the safety of passengers and critical infrastructure.
