Panipat gets parking space under elevated highway

The long-awaited vehicular parking under the elevated highway on the National Highway-1 in Panipat recently become functional. It has been constructed with an aim to check traffic jams on the highway and service roads in the city. Around 7,000 vehicles can be parked in 14 blocks at a time.

Funded by the Indian Oil Corporation, the public parking has interlocking paver blocks, LED lighting, toilet blocks, public conveniences, landscaping and other facilities under the elevated highway corridor.

The parking also has cemented benches and CCTV cameras in every block, drinking water, beautification with green plants, 12 LED lights in every block, 15 sweepers and 30 employees for all blocks and separate drivers’ zones. The parking will be free of cost for personal vehicles while the charges for commercial vehicles such as auto-rickshaws, threewheelers, Maxi cabs will be decided soon.
