NHAI to develop five Kerala bypasses

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will give 50% financial aid to the Kerala government for constructing three bypass roads in the state. The assistance for developing these roads, about ? 357 crore, would be disbursed in a phased manner. The roads that would be developed are Kollam-kazhuthurutti, Kozhikode-Muthanga, Kozhikode-Palakkad, Kollam-Kumili and Bodimettu-Kundannur. The Centre is also examining the feasibility of setting up special schemes for road development for the state to tackle the prolbems in road development. One of the problems is that the land along the prospective national highways are highly developed which makes the cost of land acquisition very high.
