All-weather roads to link J&K and Ladakh

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is in the process of laying all-weather roads which will link Jammu and Kashmir with Ladakh and other neighbouring areas. These areas remain inaccessible for quite some time of the year at present due to snow and other severe weather conditions. The two roads which already connect the state with Ladakh and other areas are being developed into two-lane highways by the BRO with tunnels being built to provide year-round connectivity. One tunnel is under construction at Rohtang in Himachal Pradesh on the Manali-Leh road and is scheduled to be completed in 2015. The other road from Darcha to Leh is being developed under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan for Jammu and Kashmir.
