New NHAI FASTag Rules: Misuse Can Lead to Blacklisting

Wmremove Transformed 1 — New NHAI FASTag Rules: Misuse Can Lead to Blacklisting

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has warned that improper FASTag use could lead to FASTag blacklisting, as it enforces stricter FASTag rules and expands barrier-free electronic toll collection across highways.

FASTag, based on RFID, must be affixed to the windscreen for seamless scanning. The authority noted that some users hold the tag by hand at toll plazas, which disrupts operations, increases waiting time, and affects traffic flow. Proper placement ensures instant detection and smooth passage.

NHAI also flagged misuse risks, as unattached tags can be used across multiple vehicles, raising fraud concerns.

In a separate alert, users have been cautioned against fake websites offering FASTag services or annual passes. Motorists should rely only on official platforms like the Rajmargyatra, verify URLs carefully, and avoid sharing sensitive details such as OTPs or banking information.
