Planning for large-scale events is now a critical part of India’s traffic management strategy. TrafficInfratech spoke with Naveen A, Project Manager, Scita Solutions, on what Uttarakhand needs for a safe and smooth vehicle flow.

What are the preparations needed for traffic safety during big events?
India is facing two main challenges, crowd management and vehicle management, that tend to be quite difficult during large events because of rising crowds.
For this, what India needs is an AI-based predictive analytics system that can estimate how many vehicles are likely to arrive and determine what technologies should be deployed to manage them safely and efficiently.
The system can detect a line of vehicles coming in and how many more are likely to come. It uses past crowd data and whatever information already available to make that prediction. Using this, we can create a simulator that shows the expected traffic or crowd. This appears on a central dashboard that the police or control room staff can monitor in real time. They can analyze the expected vehicle count and decide on the best actions for managing traffic. The system also auto-generates predictions and suggests plans for handling vehicle flow effectively.
But once these vehicles have come in, where do they locate the parking…
There are two main systems we can use: one for parking management and the other for traffic violation detection. For traffic violations, if an incident happens on the road, security personnel can be immediately dispatched to that location to ease congestion and clear bottlenecks.

For the parking management system, we can use AI-powered camera systems to monitor and optimize parking at specific locations. These systems can guide vehicles to available spots, manage traffic flow, and reduce congestion. We can design this as a complete, integrated solution that handles both on-road traffic and parking efficiently, providing a unified package for overall vehicle management.
