‘Sahkar Taxi’ service

The Indian government will be launching the ‘Sahkar Taxi’, a cooperative-based service which will include two-wheelers, rickshaws, and four-wheelers, as an alternative to platforms like Ola and Uber nationwide. The service will ensure that all profits go directly to the drivers rather than large corporations. The market may also have large space for more players with strong growth projection, increasing Internet adoption, changing lifestyle and increasing income while supply of app-cabs lag demand. Ride-hailing platforms in India are struggling to meet rising consumer demand due to a shortage of vehicles because of high asset ownership being a key challenge.
