MMRDA establishes monsoon control room

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has set up a control room to minimise inconvenience to vehicles and pedestrians during the monsoon at construction sites of its various projects. The control room, which will be managed by 41 officials in three shifts and monitored by five MMRDA nodal officers, can be contacted by commuters, motorists and the general public for incidents such as accidents, traffic jams, potholes, water logging and uprooting of trees. The agency has issued strict instructions to its contractors to follow standard safety procedures for barricading, clearing and disposal of construction debris & muck on roads and reinstatement of damaged road works. They have also been asked to maintain dewatering pumps of sufficient capacity in areas susceptible to water logging and those with no connectivity to storm water drains.
