According to a report on road safety submitted by the Chandigarh Traffic Police to the city Municipal Corporation and administration, fixing road grills on important roads of the city could make a significant contribution towards improving road safety. Iron grills prevent unauthorised access to the roads as well as ensure a safe road for the commuters. Cyclists and two- wheelers often cross roads deliberately, thereby increasing the risk of accidents. Further, the increased separation between the two sides of the road helps minimise headlights of vehicles coming from opposite roads.
