The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of a 4-lane access-controlled stretch of National Highway-927 between Barabanki and Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh. The project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode to strengthen connectivity to key economic, social and logistics nodes across the state.
The upgrade aims to fix major geometric shortcomings on the existing route, including sharp curves, poor alignment and congestion in built up areas of Barabanki and Bahraich districts. The highway will be designed as a fully access controlled four lane corridor with continuous service roads, allowing it to bypass densely populated stretches.
Once operational, it is expected to raise travel speeds and reduce the journey time between the two cities to nearly one hour, while also improving road safety, fuel efficiency and vehicle operating costs.
On completion, the corridor will also strengthen cross border trade movement between India and Nepal through the Nepalganj border by improving access to the Rupaidiha Land Port. The project will enhance connectivity to remote districts such as Bahraich and Shravasti, support logistics and economic nodes under PM GatiShakti, and boost agriculture trade, tourism, cross border commerce and regional investment.
