Expressway safety report to be submitted to Maharashtra government

The Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) is in the process of submitting a host of safety recommendations to the Maharashtra government on the safety measures to be taken on the Mumbai-Pune and Mumbai-Goa expressways in the state which have witnessed an alarming rise of accidents of late. The Association has recommended among other things, a provision for rest rooms for drivers and setting up of a hospital near Lonavala. WIAA also has a tie-up with ICICI Lombard for road safety activities in the state. It also has entered into a joint collaboration with FIA (International Association of Automobiles) to conduct a study aimed at discovering the reasons behind the large number of accidents on these roads and studying accident prone spots in Mumbai.
