Canada and India sign MoU for ITS development in India

India will get Canadian assistance in developing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in the country. The Minister for Road Transport and Highways Dr CP Joshi and the Canadian Highways minister Denis Label recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the effect. Under the MoU, India would benefit from Canadian expertise in the areas of infrastructure development, operation and maintenance of roads and the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions. India has undertaken a massive project to develop and upgrade its National Highways and also develop new Expressways. This development and upgrading of national highways network will be access controlled with modern construction technology and electronic toll collection which will need ITS solutions to implement. The MoU is expected to lead to increased participation of the Canadian infrastructure industry in the development of India’s transportation infrastructure and its national highways.
