Government is working on finalising a complete Road Safety Action Plan. This follows the introduction of a bill to create a National Road Safety and Traffic Management Board in the Lok Sabha in May this year. The government intends to make an annual provision of Rs.250 crore for the plan. The mandate for the bill is conducting of regular safety and analysis of road accident data, audits of national highways and establishing collection, transmission and analysis of road transmission data. The Plan gains significance as officially over 1.37 lakh deaths have been reported in road accidents.
