MoRTH to widen 25,000 km of highways

Nitin Gadkari led MoRTH plans to convert 16,000 km of national highways into six lanes and 25,000 km of two-lane highways into four-lane ones. The DPRs (detailed project reports) of the projects were getting ready and will be completed in two years with the road-widening projects expected to bring down the number of accidents significantly. The government has given the highest priority to the development of highways in Jammu and Kashmir, northeastern states and hilly states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Road construction works are underway in J&K, where 105 tunnels are being constructed for ease of travel.
