JICA sign agreement with GoI for Mass Transportation projects

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently signed two agreements with the Government of India to provide Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan for the Mumbai- Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) and the Kolkata East-West Metro Project.

The objective of the project is to develop a highfrequency mass transportation system by constructing the High-Speed Rail between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, using Japan’s Shinkansen technology (also known as the Bullet Train), thereby enhancing mobility in India and contributing to regional economic development.

The other big project that Japan and India have embarked upon is building of a metro rail system between Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V, including an underwater section, as a part of the ‘Kolkata East-West Metro Project (III)’.

The project involves an ambitious tunnel crossing below river Ganga in between Howrah and Mahakaran stations which will be the first transportation tunnel in India under any mighty river.
