World Bank to invest $500m in roads & highways

The World Bank will support the National Highways Inter-connectivity Improvement Project (NHIIP) with a $500m investment. The funding will help extend highway network connectivity in less developed states and improve the capacity of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to manage the highway network in the country. Under the project, about 1120km of existing single or intermediate lanes of the national highways will be upgraded in the three states of Bihar, Orissa and Rajasthan and in less developed regions of the states of Karnataka and West Bengal.
