The temple town of Tirupati is all set to become more accessible to pilgrims with the central government planning to introduce international flights from the nearby Renigunta airport. The operations will begin with the introduction of night landing facilities for international flights at the airport. The Andhra Pradesh government will acquire 400 acres of land for building the airport. The present airport is located on a 100 acre site and serves about five flights every day.
