Speed cameras reduce French road deaths

A study by France?s National Council for Road Safety (CNSR) has found that the number of fatal accidents on the roads in France decreased by 15% in the first half of 2013 compared with the same period last year. CNSR has attributed the drop in fatalities due the introduction of new speed cameras on the country?s roads. The number of mobile cameras in unmarked patrol cars, which are in addition the 4,000 fixed traffic radars across France, has risen to 100. A proposal with the CNSR has suggested introducing aircraft-style black boxes in cars to enable establishing the precise cause of accidents.
