NATPAC Observes Road Safety Week

In Kerala NATPAC (National Transportation Planning and Research Centre) observed Road Safety 2012 by screening audiovisual programmes on road safety for the public, held at its pavilion at the December Fest in Kanakakunnu Palace. These 25 minute telefilms directed by C P Padmakumar, Venu Nair and Subash included instructions and road safety rules for school kids, pedestrians, auto rickshaw drivers and school bus drivers. ‘Gathi’ and ‘Savari’ directed by C P Padmakumar dealt with road safety measures for two wheelers and three wheelers.  Venu Nair’s ‘Right Steps’ educated school children while ‘Vazhi Kannumayi’ directed by Subash explained the safety rules for pedestrians. Along with the films pamphlets and booklets on road safety were also distributed. Everyday almost 10,000 people visited the NATPAC pavilion. Painting competitions as well as quiz and elocution competitions for school and college students were conducted today at Sasthra Bhavan, Pattom. A panel discussion on ‘Safer roads for Kerala’ was held at Mascot Hotel on January 6. Kerala Transport Minister V S Sivakumar inaugurated ‘Road Safety and Youth Leadership’, a new program conceived by NATPAC, on January 7 at Sasthra Bhavan.
