Mumbai to get pilot ATC project

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will install 50 new Area Traffic Control signals in Mumbai to reduce traffic congestion at traffic junctions. Once a time is set for a signal at a junction, the sensors installed in the road assess the number of vehicles passing through the different arms of the junction and the ATC system dynamically adjusts the signal cycle timing based on the traffic volumes in the different arms. The ATC will free a considerable amount of resources for the Mumbai Traffic Police as the traffic junctions would not have to controlled manually.
