Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, described the 2026-27 Delhi Budget as a “green budget”, with ₹22,236 crore, or 21.44 percent of the total outlay, allocated for initiatives aimed at restoring the capital’s status as a “Green Delhi” and strengthening efforts toward sustainable development and a cleaner environment.
As part of the initiative, 35 lakh indigenous trees will be planted across Delhi over the next four years, along with the development of new forest areas. The budget allocates ₹130 crore for forest development and ₹44 crore for wildlife protection, while an additional ₹25 crore has been earmarked for the Delhi Park and Garden Society to expand green spaces across the city.
To tackle pollution, the government will launch a ₹300 crore Pollution Control and Emergency Measures scheme, including mechanical sweepers, anti smog guns and water sprinklers.
The plan also focuses on improving waste management by increasing the city’s waste processing capacity from 7,000 tonnes to 15,000 tonnes per day, with expansion planned at waste to energy plants in Narela, Okhla, Ghazipur and Tehkhand. The government also plans to convert 1,500 tonnes of cow dung generated daily into energy and implement a Carbon Credit Monetisation Scheme to turn emission reductions into economic value through a robust MRV (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) system.
