Alstom to make Bangalore centre a global hub

Alstom Transport, part of the Paris-based Alstom Group, is planning to transform its engineering facility at Bangalore into a global research and development hub. The facility which employs at present about 300 personnel, developing applications and products for its rail signalling projects in Asia and Europe, will be expanded to include a team focused on research, engineering and development of coaches. Initially, the focus will be on developing systems and sub-systems for coaches for the national as well as overseas markets. Gradually the centre would build up expertise to design and build complete coaches. Coaches for the Chennai Metro will be built at the facility. The company is expected to bid for several rail projects such as the expansion of the Delhi & Bangalore metros and the Ahmedabad & Cochin metros.
