Delhi Metro gets 600th Movia metro car

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently received the 600th Movia metro car from Bombardier Transportation. Each Movia four-car train set can accommodate about 1480 commuters. This can be increased if required to six-car and eight-car train sets which can seat 2,220 and 2,960 passengers respectively. The Movia cars use sustainable and eco-friendly technologies such as the MITRAC propulsion system with regenerative braking. MITRAC saves up to 30% in energy savings. Bombardier is the only multimational company in India to have a wholly owned railway vehicle manufacturing site at Savli, Gujarat, which produces car bodies and bogies. The Savli plant, which has an investment of about ?33 million also manufactures and supplies semi-finished Bombardier Flexx Metro 3001 bogies for Adelaide?s Suburban Rail Network in Australia. The plant recently received an upgrade of its International Railway Industry (IRIS) certification, the only railway vehicle manufacturing unit in India to achieve this.
