New global database on Bus Rapid Transit launched

A comprehensive, public and global database of BRT systems in the world was recently launched by three global organisations – Embarq, Across Latitudes and Cultures – Bus Rapid Transit Centre of Excellence (ALC-BRT CoE) and the International Energy Agency (IEA). BRT systems have been implemented in about 134 cities all over the world ranging from Beijing to Bogota, and serve more than 22 million passengers every day. The database can be accessed online at BRTdata.org. The website gives transportation agencies, city officials, researchers and NGOs reliable and up-to-date data to enable them to improve BRT services in their cities. The data provided includes 95 different indicators on system operations, design and cost, metrics such as the number of passengers per day, commercial speed, and the length of corridors.
