Mumbai will soon get two-in-one taxis with the Maharashtra government agreeing to grant permission for them. Passengers travelling in the traditional black-and-yellow taxis will now have the option to request the driver to turn on the air conditioner for an extra fare. The proposal has to be cleared by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority before it can be implemented. There will be no separate meter reading for such taxis unlike the Cool Cabs and AC fleet cabs, whose meters are recalibrated with the AC fares. Taxi drivers will manually calculate the ten per cent extra fare and charge the passengers.
