Dubai Rta — More pedestrian safety in Dubai

Dubai Rta — More pedestrian safety in DubaiThe Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has revealed that pedestrian fatalities on the emirate’s roads have declined by 35% to 11 deaths during the first three months of 2011, compared with 17 during the same period last year. The Authority notes that over 67% of the accidents have occurred at night time. The fall in numbers has been attributed to the awareness campaigns organised to enhance pedestrian safety, as well as the construction of foot bridges across the city. RTA expects a further drop in pedestrian fatalities during the year. Fatalities had dropped from 78 cases in 2009 to 43 in 2010.
