The Union government has launched Sagarmala, a project to use ports to develop coastal states in the country. The project will target the development of port facilities, inland water transportation, central ferry services and tourism infrastructure to achieve this goal. It will also include in its scope SEZs, rail, road, air and waterway connectivity with the hinterland, including linkages of cold storage and warehousing facilities.
