Students using mobile phones for travel

A recent study has found that students in Mumbai are increasingly turning to mobile phones to coordinate transport, especially in the rain. Some of the more popular apps and sites used by youngsters to get around the city easily are Meter Share, m-Indicator and SmartMumbaikar. Students are using social media such as Twitter and dedicated pooling websites such as carpooling.in for offering car pool rides. Many even prefer to walk to railway stations to avoid the ordeal of hailing rickshaws or cabs in the rain. TrafflineMumbai, the Twitter handle has more than 14,000 followers, while another handle SmartMumbaikar has more than 3,000.
