MoRTH to get experts to check road quality

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will soon have independent experts checking the quality of roads constructed under new projects. The experts would work under a panel headed by the Secretary, MoRTH. The move comes in response to several complaints about poor quality of roads and data showing that national highways have had a major share in fatalities in road accidents. It was felt that the present mechanism at the Ministry?s regional offices to check these issues was inadequate. The experts would assist the Ministry in project preparation, checking quality of construction & quality of services rendered by developers and suggest measures for timely completion of projects.
