Chennai Metro completes first tunnel

The first metro tunnel between two stations on the Chennai Metro has been completed. The 1.3km long tunnel has been constructed in five and a half months. The tunnel goes under 750 buildings and is a part of the underground corridor of the Chennai Metro. About 958 rings, which act as the roof and the walls, have been fixed along the stretch. Now tracks will be laid and other facilities will also be installed. A parallel tunnel along the same stretch to lay a second line is also being constructed with 205m of the second tunnel having been completed. Two other parallel tunnels – one 360m and another 368m ? have already been bored in the underground stretch. Around 7.5km tracks of have been laid so far on the elevated corridor where viaducts have been completed.
